A PGCC team, comprised of students Antonio Fominaya of Greenbelt, Asong Defang of Hyattsville, Longinus Ahanotu of Hyattsville and Michael Young of Temple Hills won first place, besting competitors from Montgomery College Rockville and Germantown campuses, Anne Arundel Community College, Howard Community College and a second team from PGCC. The competition required groups of four students to work together on word problems sharing one calculator and to collaborate rather than trying to solve the problem individually. The students were given points for their answers, based on their correctness and speed at which they solved them. The event was sponsored by the Prince George Community College Foundation and several publishing companies. Science center to host Day Howard B. Saturday at the Howard B. Owens Science Center, 9601 Greenbelt Road, Lanham. The family focused event will include planetarium programs. If weather permits, the day will feature telescope observations. The program is free.
