Candlelight Christmas in Chadds Ford Candlelight Christmas in Chadds Ford, which is presented by the Chadds Ford Historical Society, is always one of the area s most eagerly anticipated holiday events. This year s tour will be held on Dec. at a variety of locations in the Chadds Ford area. The event, which is celebrating its 28th anniversary this year, kicks off the December portion of the holiday season with a festive tour of a number of the Brandywine area s finest private homes and historical sites. Included will be the Chadds Ford Historical Society s main buildings the Barn Visitor Center and the Barns Brinton House, the Society s 18th century tavern where innkeepers will dispense samples of colonial food and drink. Also featured will be the nearby Sanderson Museum, the Cyrys Barnard Home and St. Michael Lutheran Church in Unionville. Private homes on this year s tour are The Barn House, a stucco over brick home that was two single homes built during the 1840s; Rosewood, which was built in 1861 on a 36 acre site; the Yellow House of Willowdale, a large 19th century stucco over stone home; and Alota, a home that was constructed in a traditional Quaker style in 1928. Also included on the tour are Marlborough Meetinghouse, which was built in 1801 on land donated by two farmers; the Joseph Barnard House, which was built in the 1790s on a 189 acre plot; Marlboro Manor, home was built in 1842 by Unionville merchant James Ore; and a home that was converted from its original use as Taggarts Tavern. Warm clothing and flat, sturdy footwear are recommended for all sites. No strollers, cameras or backpacks are allowed on the tour, but a flashlight is suggested for seeing the special displays.
